It’s Time to Plan Your 2027 Marketing Strategy
October is a natural time to start thinking about your 2027 marketing plan. This is the time you are setting next year’s budget. Plus it gives you time to get a head start laying groundwork such as creating campaigns, ordering supplies, or making website updates through the end of the year.
Here’s what you can do between now and the end of the year:
Start with who you’re marketing to. Before you pick tactics, get clear on your audience. What client type do you want to attract? What problems do they have? Focus one marketing plan on one client type (e.g., executives, retirees, widows). If you have different client types, have different plans for each.
Define your direction for the year. Decide on one to three areas of focus for your marketing. Are you trying to generate more referrals? Increase web leads? Focus on face-to-face interactions with prospects? Or something else?
Determine your channels. Given your focus, what channels make sense? Let your direction drive the channel selection.
Content focus. What topics will you address consistently? What mediums will you use to communicate that content? Pick a few themes that connect to the problems your audience has and commit to them for the year.
Influencers. Who are the centers of influence and organizations you want to build relationships with? Identify them now so you can be intentional throughout the year.
Create your first quarter action plan. Your marketing plan is a living, breathing thing. Each quarter, scope out specific activities you want to pursue in addition to the routine items to maintain, and pick the contacts and topics you want to focus on so you don’t have to think about them from week to week.
Get it down to weekly action items. Break your quarterly plan into weekly action items, assign who’s responsible, and set deadlines.
