Were You Promised Marketing Help That Never Came?

If you joined a consolidator or platform RIA expecting marketing support and it hasn’t materialized, you have options.

Recently, many advisors who are reaching out about our services tell us a similar story: they merged their firm into a larger RIA or moved to a platform RIA, and part of the promise was marketing support. What’s promised varies by firm, but the commonality is they overpromised and underdelivered, often because these firms are growing faster than their support can keep up.

Some advisors we talk to have said that not only are they not getting the support they were promised, they were now saddled with more restrictions on them than before joining, which left them able to do less marketing than they could before they joined the firm, especially if they were doing digital marketing. But there is still the expectation that they will bring in new business.

If this is you, I know this is frustrating, but know this is not unique to you. And if you have been provided a marketing budget, you don’t have to go through this alone. You don’t need to wait for your firm’s marketing team to get to you. An independent marketing strategist can help you build a plan around the resources you do have and come up with ideas for working within the constraints you’ve been given. It may take some problem solving and creativity, but you can still thrive even if you are feeling handicapped by your new firm’s marketing support.

That’s what we do at OnNiche® by Kaleido. We help advisors in exactly this situation build their own strategy and plan so they can move forward regardless of what the firm delivers.

The takeaway: If you were promised marketing help and it hasn’t come through, stop waiting. If you have a budget, use it to hire someone who can actually help you come up with a plan to move forward. Schedule a call if that’s where you are.
